Even before publishing “Dr. Atkins diet revolution”, the author had already established a place where people with complicated health problems could find support, proper counselling and close guidance. Heart and cardiovascular disorders, cholesterol levels, hypertension, multiple sclerosis, hypoglycemia, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, asthma, chronic fatigue, immune system deficiencies had been taken into account by Atkins Center's physicians. Dr. Atkins has always been preoccupied with complementary healing methods, and this, along with his interests in losing weight, led to Atkins Center for Complementary Medicine (New York, 1970).
Atkins Center Mission

Results
Hypertension
Successful files have been registered on patients with high blood pressure; 85 percent of them gave up medication. All these by recommending a low-carbohydrate diet and a nutrition supplement plan, such as the Atkins losing weight plan.
To treat hypertension, Atkins Center used a complete new therapy called Chelation. This enables doctors to remove risky and damaging metals from the human body. Thus, the blood flow is restored and blood pressure is re-established.
Diabetes
Atkins Center takes into its account curing or preventing type 2-diabetes form. As a result of the high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet of the Atkins eating plan, blood sugar is normalized. Cardiovascular risks related to this adult-onset form of diabetes have been significantly decreased, too. Weight loss occurs as well.
All his life, Dr. Atkins thought that a diet including vegetables, healthy natural fats and protein-rich foods is the solution to prevent diabetes. Reversing them is a bit difficult.
Type 2-diabete therapy has to achieve two goals simultaneously: to lower the glucose level and the insulin level.
Atkins Center's experts claim that only a low carbohydrate diet is able to achieve both. Anyway, Dr. Atkins' concerns weren't exaggerated at all, since 18.2 millions of Americans (6.3 percent of the population) are suffering from this disorder (or are at high risk of developing diabetes). Diabetes complications are extremely severe; serious eye damage, even blindness, is just one of the consequences.
